Ubon Ratchathani: A Hidden Gem in Thailand
Nestled in the northeastern region of Thailand, Ubon Ratchathani is a city rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity. As a National Geographic journalist, I had the pleasure of discovering this city and I must say, it exceeded my expectations.
Scenery: Ubon Ratchathani is a city that seamlessly blends the old with the new. The Mekong River, which is the seventh longest river in Asia, flows through the city creating a picturesque view. The natural parks, forests and waterfalls within and around the city are sights to behold. The blend of modern structures and the traditional Thai architecture adds to the beauty of the city.
What I like: The food in Ubon Ratchathani is delicious and affordable. The friendly and welcoming nature of the locals is commendable. The city is peaceful and safe to navigate.
What I dislike: The mode of transport within the city is limited to the Tuk-Tuk, which might not be the most comfortable for longer distances. The rainy season can affect the tours of the natural parks.
Average Cost of Living in a Day: The average cost of living in Ubon Ratchathani is affordable. A budget of 20-30 USD is enough to cater to a decent meal, transportation and entrance fees into some of the tourist attractions.
