Surin: The Hidden Gem of Northeastern Thailand
Surin, a small city located in the northeastern region of Thailand, is often overlooked by tourists in favor of more popular destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket. However, those who venture to Surin will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience that offers a unique glimpse into the culture and lifestyle of Thailand’s rural heartland.
Scenery
The scenery of Surin features a mix of tropical forests, mountains, and ancient ruins. The city is situated on a plateau surrounded by rolling hills and fertile farmland, providing a picturesque backdrop for the numerous temples and historical landmarks that can be found throughout the city.
Likes and Dislikes
What I like most about Surin is that it is still very much an authentic Thai city, where you can see typical day-to-day life taking place. I also appreciate the laid-back vibe of the city, where you can take your time to explore without feeling rushed. The only downside to Surin is that it does not offer as many tourist-friendly amenities as some of the more developed cities in Thailand, which can be a bit of a challenge for non-Thai speaking travelers.
Cost of Living
Surin has a lower cost of living compared to the metropolitan cities in Thailand. On average, you can expect to spend around $20 per day on food, transportation, and sightseeing.
