A team of researchers at the University of Tokyo have created a wearable multi-armed device called “Jizai Arms” that allows multiple users to interact with robotic limbs. The arms can be removed and attached to share with others via sockets on the back, and can be controlled remotely using a scaled-down version of the arms. The project was inspired by traditional Japanese puppet theatre and aims to explore how technology can function as an extension of the human body. The researchers envision potential uses of the device in search and rescue operations and artistic performances.
