The director-general of Thailand’s Fine Arts Department has stated that the slight lean in the four mondops, religious architectural features, towards the central tower of Bangkok’s Wat Arun does not pose a threat to the structure. Three-dimensional scans conducted by officials show that the mondop on the southern side has tilted slightly but does not pose a risk. The director-general explained that the lean may have occurred during construction or repair due to the type of soil in Bangkok. Renovation experts will monitor any increase in the tilt and take appropriate remedial measures.
