Following a court ruling in 2022, known as “The Beach Case,” which ordered the cleanup and restoration of Maya Bay’s beach, a civil court symposium was held to discuss progress in the case. The Krabi Provincial and Ao Nang Administrative Organization sent a letter to the Environmental Case Division, stating that the Royal Forest Department is in the process of selecting private sector partners for the restoration. The Supreme court’s ruling also obligated the Forest Department to restore Maya Bay to its original condition and ordered Twenty Century Fox to pay compensation and support environmental protection. The Court has proposed a draft Royal Decree for the assessment of environmental cases, which would benefit the restoration of Thailand’s natural resources and facilitate fair dispute resolution.
