The Department of Medical Sciences (DMS) and the National Health Security Office (NHSO) of Thailand have announced a new initiative offering free screening for newborns to detect 24 rare medical conditions. This move is aimed at improving the health of children in the country and combating the declining birth rate. The screenings will help detect foetal abnormalities and genetic conditions, especially in remote areas where access to healthcare is limited. The government aims to provide this screening to all newborns within 24 hours of birth by the end of 2024.
