Thailand is looking to expand its ‘pink economy’ by attracting international LGBTQ+ retirees. The country’s high tolerance for gender diversity makes it an ideal retirement destination for the LGBTQ+ community. However, there is a need for more healthcare specialists and clinics focusing on HIV and STDs to truly establish Thailand as an LGBTQ+ retirement haven. Brendan Berne, a former Australian ambassador and economist, predicts an increase in LGBTQ+ retirees in the coming decades, particularly as Generation Z reaches retirement age. He suggests that Thailand could lead this trend by creating a new sector tailored to LGBTQ+ retirement with government support.
