The Department of Rail Transport (DRT) in Thailand is considering plans to implement a fare cap of 20 baht per trip on Bangkok’s electric trains. The DRT source revealed that the findings from the investigation will be presented to the new administration once it takes office. There are two methods being considered for implementing the policy: applying the fare cap only to low-income individuals with a state welfare card, or applying it to all commuters. The government would need to subsidize the fares, with the second approach being more expensive. The DRT hopes that this policy, if implemented, could help reduce levels of PM2.5 pollutants.
