Thai PBS, Thailand’s public broadcaster, has been commended by lawmakers for its independent news coverage and educational programming. However, they urged the broadcaster to find ways to improve its audience ratings and produce more content promoting media literacy in response to the spread of misinformation and fake news. Thai PBS Director General Wilasinee Phiphitkul highlighted the broadcaster’s coverage of major events and its recognition for editorial independence. Some lawmakers expressed concerns about the broadcaster’s low viewer numbers and long-term funding, but Chirmsak Pinthong, chairman of the Board of Governors, reassured that plans are in place to secure additional financing.
