The Thai National Health Security Office (NHSO) is considering expanding its “gold card” scheme, which provides affordable healthcare, to include cancer treatment and free screenings for non-cardholders. Jadet Thammathat-Aree, secretary-general of the NHSO, announced that the organization is also exploring the possibility of incorporating targeted therapy for cancer patients into the national list of essential medicines. In addition, the NHSO is collaborating with the Social Security Office to reach non-member groups, such as factory workers, for early cancer testing. The office is also looking into adding cytisine, a medication for quitting smoking, to the essential medicines list.
