Photo Courtesy of Bangkok Post: The military withdrawal in the southern region of Thailand, which has endured 19 years of insurgent unrest, has begun its initial phase. The four-year plan aims to gradually decrease military presence and remove the state of emergency in the area. Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani, and certain sections of Songkhla have been in a state of upheaval since 2004. The planned withdrawal is expected to provide relief and promote normalization. The military’s initial focus was on security concerns and halting insurgent attacks, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. A strategic four-year withdrawal program aims to restore peace in the region.
