Srettha Thavisin has become Thailand’s 30th prime minister after winning a parliamentary majority. Despite facing criticism and allegations of facilitating tax evasion, Srettha secured 482 votes in favor, with 165 votes against and 81 abstentions. Many of the senators who voted for Srettha are close to outgoing PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, including his brother and former classmate. Srettha, a property tycoon turned politician, founded the real estate company Sansiri and has promised to fight against inequality as prime minister. He advocates for reducing inequality as a national agenda to narrow social and income gaps.
