About 10 refugees from Myanmar living in a shelter in Thailand’s Mae Hong Son province have been infected with malaria, causing concern among Thai health officials. Most of the refugees are elderly, women, and children who have escaped fighting between Myanmar government forces and Karenni rebels. Local Thai officials are working to accommodate the refugees by building more tents and toilets. The refugees have been in the shelter for over a week and there is no indication of when they will be able to return home.
