Uthai Thani’s Huay Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary is experiencing a severe drought due to the El Nino phenomenon, causing animals, including elephants, to migrate in search of food. The sanctuary’s breeding station chief, Tonsak Nipanan, reported that wildlife has moved into the station’s area and beyond. A recent incident resulted in the death of a local from a wild elephant, prompting warnings for hikers to be cautious. While the breeding station has sufficient water reserves, a fence built along one section of the border has proven ineffective in confining wildlife, particularly migrating elephants. The station is home to various animals and plans are underway to release some into no-hunting zones for nature tourism purposes. The opening hours of the wildlife station may need to be modified due to the presence of wild elephant migration in the area.
