Air pollution from fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Chiang Mai is causing a rise in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions. Doctors warn of increased irritation, infections, and worsening symptoms among vulnerable groups. PM2.5 levels rise significantly in northern Thailand during February and March, leading to nasal inflammation and respiratory infections. Pollution is also linked to eye irritation, fetal development risks, delayed brain development in children, and increased likelihood of stroke and lung cancer. Health officials recommend monitoring air quality, wearing protective masks, using air purifiers, and maintaining overall health. Patients on CPAP machines should clean and replace air filters regularly.
