Thai Smile, an affiliate of Thai Airways, has decided to discontinue flights from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Surat Thani Airport, starting from October 1. This decision has caused the provincial governor, Witchawut Jinto, to appeal for a reversal. Jinto has submitted a formal letter to Thai Smile, expressing public discontent over the plans, especially since they coincide with the beginning of the high season. The governor has highlighted the popularity of the route among tourists visiting neighboring provinces and voiced concerns about a potential shortage of flights during the high season. In 2009, Thai Smile had previously tried to suspend this service, but opposition from local businesses and individuals prevented it.
