Phuket International Airport is set to undergo a significant expansion, approved by the Airports of Thailand (AoT), with an estimated cost of 6 billion baht. The project aims to double the international terminal’s passenger handling capacity to 12 million annually, complementing the domestic terminal and increasing the airport’s overall maximum capacity to 18 million. The expansion is considered urgent due to the projected increase in passenger numbers post-pandemic. The airport director anticipates accommodating up to 50,000 tourists on 310-320 flights daily by the year’s end. Discussions were also held regarding the transfer of Krabi Airport ownership and the construction of a new airport in Koh Phangnga.
