A royal pardon application has been submitted for Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand, according to outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam. The request was made for an individual pardon, not as part of the standard group pardons and sentence reductions usually given on special occasions. The application will go through the normal process, which typically takes one to two months. Thaksin, who returned to Thailand in August after 15 years in exile, is currently in the Police General Hospital. The processing of the application is expected to be expedited.
