A representative of the Lukkaithong Thai Royal Restaurant, owner of the controversial “Pang Cha” trademark, stated that they do not intend to seek compensation from those who use the trademark. Rather, they want them to stop using it immediately. The Department of Intellectual Property had rejected the application for “Pang Cha The Best Thai Tea” due to the common usage of the words “The Best Thai Tea.” The owner of the “Pang Cha” restaurant in Chiang Rai received a notice demanding 102 million baht in compensation, while another restaurant owner received a demand for 700,000 baht. The Department clarified that the dessert cannot be patented but warned against using the same design as the Lukkaithong restaurant’s patented container. A Thai traditional costume expert also raised concerns about the origin of the Lukkaithong logo.
