When we think of mothers, we often associate them with unconditional love and care for their children. However, mothers also bear the burden of unpaid work, including household chores and childcare. This double burden has been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a larger reduction in working hours and increased unemployment for women compared to men. The unequal distribution of domestic chores is influenced by biased gender social norms, with women in countries with higher gender bias spending up to six times more hours on such tasks compared to men. This imbalance hinders women’s career advancements and equal pay. Families should challenge these norms and share responsibilities to address this issue.
