More than 76% of poll respondents conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) want a House speaker who is impartial and can work with all political parties. Only about 26% believe a law degree is necessary for the speaker. Other findings from the poll include 72% saying the House speaker must be impartial, 63% saying the speaker must be a veteran MP, and 34% saying the speaker must have a law degree. The poll also reveals that 52.44% of respondents want parties to settle on the House speakership themselves, while 47.20% believe there should be a free vote by the MPs.
