At least 719 people have been arrested and 45 policemen injured in the fifth night of riots in France. The unrest began following the death of a teenager who was driving without a license and evaded a police checkpoint. The government described the fifth night as “calmer” compared to previous ones. Over the course of the riots, 500 public buildings and 1,900 vehicles have been set on fire, with 871 fires on the streets and damage to 74 buildings. The riots have also spread to Switzerland and Belgium. Large police forces have been deployed to maintain order.
