The Kremlin has denied allegations that it was involved in a plane crash that is presumed to have killed mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. Prigozhin, whose fighters were feared in Ukraine and other conflict areas, was eulogized by President Vladimir Putin. U.S. intelligence believes the plane was downed by an intentional explosion, with suspicions growing that Putin was behind it. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the claims as “complete lie”. The crash comes two months after Prigozhin conducted a mutiny that posed a significant challenge to Putin’s rule. British Defense Ministry warned that his death could destabilize his Wagner Group of private military contractors.
