State media in North Korea reported that citizens living abroad have been allowed to return home, as the country further opens up from pandemic-era isolation. The citizens returning will undergo a week of quarantine before reentry. North Korea closed its borders in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but there have been signs of reopening, including foreign dignitaries attending a military parade and athletes attending a taekwondo competition abroad. Air Koryo, the state-run airline, also made its first international commercial flight in three years. China’s foreign ministry confirmed that it has approved commercial flights between Beijing and Pyongyang.
