Phuket Island celebrates the Por Toh Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, in Old Phuket Town. The festival, rooted in ancient Chinese beliefs, takes place during the Ghost Month when the spirits of ancestors and restless spirits roam the earth. Families set up tables with traditional Chinese delicacies as offerings to the hungry ghosts. Visitors can also witness blessing ceremonies, engage in rituals at Chinese shrines, and enjoy live performances. The Por Tor Gong shrine serves as the focal point of the festival. The festival also features the iconic red turtle cake, symbolizing luck, longevity, and wisdom.
