Hundreds of Malaysian tourists were left stranded at the Thai-Malaysian border checkpoint in Sadao district, Songkhla province, after Malaysian immigration officials closed the checkpoint at 11pm. Around 200 cars and buses were stranded on the Thai side of the border as a result. The closure caused resentment among the tourists, with some seeking accommodation in Sadao district and others remaining in their vehicles until the gate was reopened. The president of the Hotels Association in Hat Yai expressed concern over the impact this incident could have on the Thai tourism sector.
