Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has begun a three-week election campaign, with his party expected to win after the main opposition party was barred from participating. The election, scheduled for July 23, is widely seen as a sham due to the lack of viable rivals to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party. Hun Sen, who has been in power for 38 years, promised to improve infrastructure, increase wages, and eradicate divisions and political instability. He has hinted at retiring soon and supporting his son, Hun Manet, to succeed him. Critics argue that there is no real opposition in the country.
