The tranquilliser flualprazolam is being widely used in Thailand’s southern provinces, particularly in Narathiwat, despite being illegal. The Regional Medical Sciences Centre 12 in Songkhla found flualprazolam in nimetazepam pills, marking the first detection of the substance in Thailand. Flualprazolam is a benzodiazepine used to treat panic disorders, insomnia, and anxiety. The director-general of the Department of Medical Sciences, Supakit Sirilak, warned that other substances may be combined with nimetazepam to avoid prosecution. Flualprazolam’s chemical structure suggests it can take effect within 10-30 minutes and last for 6-14 hours. This news raises concerns about drug use in the region.
