Thailand’s sex workers have long been without legal protection, despite the industry employing thousands of people. However, the Sex Workers Protection Bill aims to address exploitation, human trafficking, and workers’ rights in the industry. The SWING Foundation, established in 2004, has been supporting and advocating for the rights and dignity of sex workers in Thailand for nearly two decades. Founder Surang Janyam believes that sex work should be decriminalized to promote equality and provide sex workers with better lives. The foundation currently offers health-related services to sex workers, including HIV and syphilis tests and free contraception. The ultimate goal is to see sex work decriminalized in Thailand.
