Thai Prime Minister-elect Srettha Thavisin has requested the Office of the Council of State (OCS) to evaluate the qualifications of Phichit Chuenban for a ministerial position in the government. He expects to receive the results tomorrow and, if approved, will proceed with presenting the cabinet line-up for royal approval. Phichit, a close associate of the Shinawatra family, is expected to be the PM’s Office Minister. However, his appointment has raised concerns due to his imprisonment for contempt of court in 2008. Phichit argues that his jail term should not disqualify him from the position.
