Japan has expressed its concern over the harassment faced by its citizens in China following the release of water from the Fukushima nuclear plant. Last week, China banned all seafood imports from Japan as the latter began releasing treated wastewater from the plant. Japanese citizens have been urged to maintain a low profile while security around schools and diplomatic missions has been increased. Japan’s foreign minister confirmed that a brick was thrown at the country’s embassy in Beijing and called on China to take immediate action to calm the situation. China has called on Japan to stop the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water and seek consultation with its neighbors. Japan has assured the safety of the released water, stating that all radioactive elements have been filtered out except for tritium.
