Sak Surin, the Thai elephant who had been in Sri Lanka for 22 years, safely arrived in Chiang Mai after a 5-hour chartered flight. The elephant was examined by veterinarians before being placed in quarantine at an elephant conservation center. Many tourists and media were present to witness the arrival. The transportation to the conservation center will be done at a slow speed with police escort. Once at the quarantine center, Sak Surin will receive another check-up and rest. The successful repatriation project was funded by the Thai government.
