The Thai elephant Sak Surin in Sri Lanka is ready to be flown back to Thailand on July 2nd. Thai officials in Sri Lanka state that the elephant is in good shape and appears to be happy. A team, led by Rungnapar Pattanavibool and Kanchana Silpa-archa, will fly to Sri Lanka to make final arrangements for the elephant’s repatriation. Four mahouts and two veterinarians will accompany the elephant on the flight to ensure a smooth and safe journey. The elephant will be moved from the Dehiwala Zoo to Colombo international airport and will be welcomed in Chiang Mai by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Varawut Silpa-archa.
