Nakhon Ratchasima Airport, also known as Korat Airport in Thailand, has been largely unused since its completion in 1986. However, the new Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, is seeking to revitalize the airport as part of his tourism initiatives. The airport has the capacity to handle Boeing 737-sized aircraft and has a passenger terminal. Previous attempts to operate commercial flights from the airport have been unsuccessful due to low demand. Pongthep Malachasingh, president of Wang Nam Khiao District Tourism Promotion Association, hopes that political support can be obtained to accelerate the airport’s revitalization and boost economic growth in the province.
