Thailand’s Thammakaset chicken farm has dropped defamation charges against three former employees who criticized the company on social media. The case involved 30 counts of criminal defamation and could have led to a 42-year prison sentence if convicted. Thammakaset claimed the comments were linked to a defamatory video produced by human rights group Fortify Rights. However, the judge found the defendants not guilty of defamation because readers would have had to click on multiple links to reach the video. Critics argue that defamation laws in Asian countries are often used to silence and intimidate critics.
