U.S. House lawmaker Rep. Don Bacon has revealed that the FBI informed him that his email accounts were also accessed by China-backed hackers who used a stolen Microsoft key to target senior U.S. government officials. The disclosure came two months after the hack took place, raising questions about the delay in notifying the affected individuals. Bacon mentioned that there were other victims of the cyber incident, including an unnamed congressional staffer. Microsoft had previously reported that approximately 25 organizations, including government agencies, were compromised in the breach. Bacon believes the hacks were intended to undermine his support for Taiwan’s defenses.
