A group of bipartisan senators is demanding answers from Meta (formerly Facebook) regarding the prevention of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Instagram. The senators are concerned about the platform’s algorithms that bring users with such content together and accused Meta of lacking initiative in stopping its spread. They want to know why Instagram failed to detect CSAM sharing and what the company is doing to prevent future incidents. Meta has set up a task force to address the issue and promised to take down CSAM networks. Failure to comply may result in heavy sanctions imposed by the European Union.
