Sega’s COO, Shuji Utsumi, has denied rumors of the company being up for sale amidst speculation of a possible acquisition by Microsoft. While Microsoft’s interest in Sega was fueled by a consolidation trend in the gaming industry and its ongoing merger with Activision Blizzard, Utsumi declined to comment on any acquisition offers from Microsoft. However, he emphasized the strong relationship between the two companies, highlighted by Sega titles appearing on Xbox consoles. Despite Microsoft’s interest in Sega, the company will continue as Sega Sammy Holdings. This news comes as Sega gears up for game releases like a new Sonic title and a refresh of Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
