Stitcher, the popular podcasting app and web service, is set to shut down on August 29th. The closure is part of SiriusXM’s plan to incorporate podcasts into its flagship subscription business. While Stitcher Studios and its Earwolf comedy network will continue making podcasts, the availability of premium content will be determined by the hosts/creators. Stitcher’s user-friendly navigation, extensive library, and discovery recommendations have made it a popular destination for exclusive and cross-platform podcasts. Stitcher started as a startup in 2008, was bought and sold by various companies, and was eventually acquired by SiriusXM in 2020. Current subscribers will receive refunds for unused portions of their subscriptions.
