Niantic CEO John Hanke has announced major organizational changes at the company, including layoffs, game shutdowns, and the closure of its Los Angeles studio. The restructuring is aimed at focusing on the development and maintenance of its flagship game, Pokémon Go. About 230 employees will be affected by the layoffs, and Niantic will be discontinuing its NBA game, NBA All World, as well as ceasing production on its Marvel game, Marvel World of Heroes. Despite these changes, Niantic remains optimistic about the future of augmented reality and is keeping an eye on mixed reality devices like the Meta Quest Pro and Apple Vision Pro.
