The road to the Nimona movie has been long and transformative. Originally a webcomic on the artist’s Tumblr account, Nimona found life and fans online before being picked up by Netflix. The movie, based on ND Stevenson’s graphic novel, has made some major changes to the characters and storyline. Ballister Blackheart becomes Ballister Boldheart, reflecting a shift in his character. In the movie, he loses his arm during a ceremony gone wrong, while in the graphic novel, his arm is injured in a jousting match. The movie also explores the love story between Ballister and Ambrosius more explicitly and gives Nimona a different backstory. Gloreth, a legendary female knight, plays a bigger role in the movie adaptation as well.
