Google’s “Iris” augmented/virtual reality headset may never be released, according to a report by Business Insider. Despite working on the product for several years, Google reportedly gave up on it earlier this year. The headset was described as a battery-powered, Android-based AR device resembling ski goggles. However, Google has apparently shifted its focus and will now concentrate on building a software platform for AR, with other manufacturers creating the actual headsets. This decision follows Google’s previous ventures in the AR space, such as Google Glass, which were ultimately abandoned.
