Meta is preparing to launch a new type of Facebook ads that will allow users in the EU to download apps directly without going through app stores. This capability will initially be available on Android devices, as the company collaborates with Android developers for a pilot launch. The initiative is made possible by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), a new law set to take effect in 2024, which mandates app downloads from competing platforms. Meta has confirmed the plan and emphasized the importance of providing developers with more options for distributing their apps. The company is not currently taking a cut from developers’ earnings and allows them to utilize their preferred billing system.
