We may never be rich enough to afford a trip into space, but we can still appreciate the wonders of the cosmos. The shortlist for the 2023 Astronomy Photographer of the Year Awards has been revealed by London’s Royal Observatory Greenwich. The competition received over 4,000 entries and winners will be announced on September 14. The categories range from aurorae to galaxies, and some of the stunning shortlisted images include the Northern Lights above Vestrahorn in Iceland, the Veil Nebula in the Cygnus constellation, and Saturn at opposition. The exhibition of the winning photographs will open on September 16.
