Eric Appel’s film “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” has received eight Emmy nominations, including Best TV Movie. The film, which tells a fictionalized version of Yankovic’s rise to fame and his encounter with a manipulative Madonna, began as a Funny or Die fake trailer starring Aaron Paul. Yankovic and Appel decided to produce a full-length version of the film after receiving requests from fans.
