Matthew López’s Red, White & Royal Blue, adapted from Casey McQuiston’s bestseller, tells the story of Alex Claremont-Diaz, the first son of the United States, and Britain’s Prince Henry. After a royal wedding cake mishap, their lives become tangled together in a fake friendship to rehabilitate Alex’s mother’s approval ratings. Despite their differences and the challenges they face, the men discover a deep connection between them. López, a Tony-winning playwright, makes his directorial debut in this film, supported by Amazon Studios and producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, who have a track record of promoting LGBTQ stories.
