He revealed in an interview with The Times that, upon his casting announcement in April 2025, he faced significant backlash due to being a Black actor in this iconic role. Despite the abuse affecting him emotionally, Essiedu stated it fuels his passion for representing the character and inspiring children like him. The Harry Potter series aims to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s novels into separate seasons, with production having started in July 2023.
