This review is a part of the coverage for the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Susie Searches, directed by Sophie Kargman, follows the title character Susie (Kiersey Clemons) as she uses her ability to predict story endings to start her own true crime podcast. When a fellow student goes missing, Susie takes on the case in hopes of boosting her podcast’s success. The film explores dark issues but struggles with tonal inconsistencies and underdeveloped themes. While the performances are enjoyable, the characters lack consistency, and the narrative feels disjointed. Overall, Susie Searches falls short of its potential.
