“Goodfellas” is hailed as one of the greatest crime films and overall best films ever made. Based on the true story of mobster Henry Hill, the majority of the plot points in the film are real, although some events were altered for dramatic effect. Robert De Niro’s performance as mobster Jimmy Conway is chilling and authentic, while Martin Scorsese’s direction elevates the portrayal. De Niro’s attention to detail in emulating the real-life James Burke, upon whom his character is based, is commendable. The film takes some artistic license, but ultimately provides an accurate depiction of Burke’s life. “Goodfellas” is a timeless masterpiece and a testament to the collaboration between De Niro and Scorsese.
