Hollywood’s housekeepers and dishwashers are joining the Writers Guild of America (WGA) on the picket lines, as the union enters its second month of a work stoppage over a contract dispute. UNITE HERE Local 11, a powerful hospitality union, has also announced its own walkout, the largest labor action in the U.S. hotel industry in modern history. The strike involves about 15,000 union members at over 60 properties in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The union is demanding a $5 hourly wage increase, with $3 annual bumps over the three-year contract. The strike is driven by issues including the local housing affordability crisis.
